The San Diego County Water Authority board of directors in a special meeting today authorized General Manager Maureen Stapleton to complete agreements associated with the Colorado River Quantification Settlement Agreement (QSA) and the Agreement for Transfer of Conserved Water between the Imperial Irrigation District (IID) and the Water Authority.

“We are still hopeful an agreement can be finalized with the Imperial Irrigation District before the Dec. 31 deadline,” said Water Authority board Chairman James F. Turner. “This action allows our general manager to act expeditiously in the event an agreement is reached before year’s end.”
Stapleton was given authority to execute all contracts, contract amendments and other documents necessary to implement the Quantification Settlement Agreement and the water transfer between IID and the Water Authority by Dec. 31, 2002. The board also approved the Program Environmental Impact Report on the QSA.

The San Diego County Water Authority is a public agency serving the San Diego region as a wholesale supplier of water from the Colorado River and Northern California. The Water Authority works through its 23 member agencies to provide a safe, reliable water supply to almost three million county residents.
