Water Authority receives 2005 Multi-Cultural Heritage Award
Small Contractor training programs honored at luncheon
The San Diego County Water Authority received the 2005 Multicultural Heritage
Award at the 10th Annual Multicultural Heritage awards luncheon May 19, 2005
at the San Diego Marriott Hotel & Marina. Presented by the San Diego Business
Journal and Wells Fargo Bank, the Water Authority received the award for its
commitment to assisting small and emerging business enterprises throughout the
San Diego region.
The Water Authority’s Small Contractor Outreach and Opportunities Program
received this recognition for two award-winning programs, The Training Source
and the Paths to Partnerships Networking Forum.
The Training Source provides training to businesses on how to bid on service
and construction contracts with public agencies throughout the San Diego region.
The program trains small business owners and managers on doing business with
local public agencies. Since April 2004, this training has resulted in nearly
$2.25 million in contract awards to small businesses on Water Authority projects.
Paths to Partnerships is a collaborative effort with other public agencies
that increases contract and sub-contract opportunities for small businesses.
Experts in the field of marketing, subcontracting, purchasing, bonding and insurance
provide information on how to compete for contract opportunities with the Water
Authority.
California Lt. Gov. Cruz M. Bustamante awarded a special commendation to the
Water Authority for setting the standard for others to follow through its policies,
recruitment efforts and commitment to diversity in its contracting procedures.
The Water Authority also received recognition for being an industry leader by
recognizing the value of diversity.
